Drewry Home Inspections, Inc. (DHI) provides professional home inspections for previously owned and new homes in the Northern Virginia area to include the counties of Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William; and the cities of Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, and Vienna.

A DHI home inspection consists of:

  • examining the structure and mechanical systems
  • plumbing and electrical systems
  • reporting visible defects
  • giving maintenance information
  • tagging water and gas valves for easy identification
  • providing repair recommendations
  • pointing out both positive and negative aspects of the home

At the conclusion of the inspection, DHI provides a notebook containing a computerized printed report that includes digital color photos of most defects of the identified defects found in the property. An electronic version of the inspection report can be e-mailed.  In addition, on inspections of resale or new homes and townhouses, a comprehensive manual entitled "How to Operate Your Home" is also included.

DHI offers other services including: (click the service for a detailed description)

Sellers Inspection

These home inspection helps the homeowner prepare the house prior to placing it on the real estate market by identify items which may need repairs or replacement.

Foundation Inspection

This inspection is the only opportunity to view the footings and foundation drainage prior to the backfilling against the house foundation walls. This inspection can be preformed only when the foundation has been poured, the forms removed, and the drainage system installed, but prior to backfill.

Pre-drywall Inspection

This inspection is performed after the house has been framed, but before the dry wall is installed and should occur concurrent with the county code close-in inspection. This is the opportunity to view the interior structural components, plumbing pipes, electrical wiring, and heating/cooling ducts prior to covering with drywall (Sheetrock).

One-year Inspection

This inspection is crucial for the homeowner because the builder is responsible for any repairs to the home for the first year. The homeowner must, however, notify the builder of any problems or defects prior to the expiration of this one-year warranty.

Final Inspection

The house is ready for delivery and this inspection will functionally check the major systems (such as heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical) as well as the grading, drainage, landscaping, attic insulation, appliances, and many other items.

Radon Testing

Radon, a radioactive gas, is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Radon forms from the decay of uranium in soil and rock, and seeps into dwellings through cracks in the floors and walls or through gaps in the foundation around pipes, wires, and pumps. The only way to know if a house has radon is to test it. For more information on radon see our links section.

Drewry Home Inspections, Inc. (DHI) performs all inspections under the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the American Society of Home Inspectors®.
